It contained a variety of literature including \u201cAffordable Care Act Answers\u201d, a guide to the key components of the new law, along with brochures from insurance plan partners. This is just one example of the many ways that retail pharmacies large and small are contributing to consumer knowledge about healthcare reform. Amid the controversy, confusion, and delays surrounding the Affordable Care Act in recent weeks, it\u2019s great to see that pharmacy chains are stepping up to furnish some solid and objective information.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.walgreens.com\/topic\/pharmacy\/reform-insurance.jsp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-92\" title=\"Walgreens website\" src=\"http:\/\/www.rx-edge.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/Walgreens-website1.jpg\" alt=\"Website information on the Affordable Care Act\" width=\"600\" height=\"307\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.instephealth.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/Walgreens-website1.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.instephealth.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/Walgreens-website1-300x153.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.instephealth.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/Walgreens-website1-500x255.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A review of the websites for many Rx retailers revealed that they are working hard online to provide their customers with clear details about the new law.\u00a0 From what I can see so far, they are doing a great job.\u00a0 Walgreens has implemented a \u201cGet Informed \u2013 Get Insured\u201d partnership with Go Health, an online health insurance portal.\u00a0 On the CVS website, the colorful graphics almost make insurance seem like fun (notice I said \u201calmost\u201d\u2026!)\u00a0 Much of the material is presented in a highly interactive manner with tools that allow consumers to calculate subsidy eligibility, estimate penalties for non-enrollment, and find CVS-preferred health plan partners.\u00a0\u00a0 Supermarket pharmacies are disseminating ACA information online as well; Kroger has complete list of FAQ\u2019s; Safeway and Albertsons provide direct links to the healthcare exchange website.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-93\" title=\"Additional websites\" src=\"http:\/\/www.rx-edge.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/2.jpg\" alt=\"Website information on the Affordable Care Act\" width=\"587\" height=\"244\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.instephealth.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/2.jpg 587w, https:\/\/www.instephealth.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/2-300x124.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.instephealth.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/2-500x207.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 587px) 100vw, 587px\" \/><\/p>\n<h4>The human element:\u00a0 pharmacies function as learning centers for the Affordable Care Act<\/h4>\n<p>Many retailers are further connecting with consumers by using their stores as education sites.\u00a0 Giant Eagle is encouraging customers to attend one of the many information sessions being held at selected retail locations.\u00a0\u00a0 At CVS \u201cProject Health\u201d in-store events, consumers can now talk to independent educators and healthcare plan representatives in addition to getting free screenings for blood pressure, glucose, cholesterol and other conditions.\u00a0 Rite Aid is offering free Affordable Care Act counseling at its stores.\u00a0\u00a0 And it isn\u2019t just the big retailers that are getting involved.\u00a0 Navarro, which operates 35 stores in South Florida, has had insurance agents and licensed providers on hand to guide customers and their families to needed information.<\/p>\n<p>The common denominator that I see among all of these communications is <strong>clarity<\/strong>: just the facts, presented in a straightforward and user-friendly manner.\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0Add to that the <strong>accessibility<\/strong> factor \u2500 nearly all (93%) of Americans live within 5 miles of a community pharmacy outlet and the average distance to a retail pharmacy is 1.26 miles* \u2500\u00a0 and you have a good foundation for getting information into a lot of people\u2019s hands when they need it.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: xx-small;\">*Source: \u00a0NCPDP Pharmacy Files and NACDS Economics Department 2010, from NACDS<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>When I was at a CVS recently, I noticed a \u201cHealth Insurance Information Center\u201d display near the front of the store.
