pharmacy may not be the first thing that comes to mind.\u00a0\u00a0 But it certainly qualifies as a point of care in the ways that matter the most:\u00a0 presence of a healthcare provider in the form of a pharmacist (or a nurse practitioner\/physician assistant, if the pharmacy has a clinic) along with actual delivery of health services.\u00a0\u00a0 Examples of the ways that pharmacy has transformed itself into a bona fide Point of Care channel are seemingly endless.\u00a0 Only a few years ago, immunizations were within the exclusive purview of the doctor\u2019s office.\u00a0 Nowadays, you can get your flu shot at your local pharmacy (and pick up a bottle of aspirin, some cough drops, or a week\u2019s worth of groceries while you\u2019re at it).\u00a0 Other resources have become routinely available as well in the pharmacy setting: wellness events, blood pressure monitoring, and diabetes screening.\u00a0 Retail-based clinics are growing in number and provide a wide variety of services, everything from camp physicals to treatment of minor illnesses.\u00a0 \u00a0Some retailers are even installing kiosks where consumers can monitor their heart rate, BMI, vision, and total body composition.\u00a0 These efforts are translating into increased shopper traffic and are changing perceptions about how, where, and by whom healthcare should be delivered.<\/p>\n<p>As a pharma marketer considers the stages that people go through on their way to a treatment decision, pharmacy\u2019s additional value component becomes clear:\u00a0 it is a setting that\u2019s conducive to providing information and education.\u00a0 For pharmaceutical companies, this information is most useful when it is delivered at the consumer\u2019s healthcare \u201cmindset moment\u201d: they\u2019re in the search-mode, they\u2019re motivated to take action of some kind, and they are willing to focus attention on information they perceive as valuable.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.rx-edge.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/Blog-graphic.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-347\" title=\"Healthcare Decisions\" src=\"http:\/\/www.rx-edge.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/Blog-graphic.jpg\" alt=\"Mindset Moments\" width=\"648\" height=\"290\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.instephealth.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/Blog-graphic.jpg 800w, https:\/\/www.instephealth.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/Blog-graphic-300x134.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.instephealth.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/Blog-graphic-500x223.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.instephealth.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/Blog-graphic-700x313.jpg 700w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 648px) 100vw, 648px\" \/><\/a>Speaking of point of care, be sure to attend the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.exlpharma.com\/event-agenda\/4520\">Point of Care Marketing Congress<\/a>, May 21-22, 2014 in Princeton, NJ to gain perspectives and inspiration from a great line-up of industry speakers from Merck, Lilly, Pfizer, Actavis and many others. \u00a0Rx EDGE will be there to share the latest trends in the pharmacy setting and to give you some ideas for maximizing its potential for pharmaceutical brands.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>When you think of \u201cpoint of care\u201d, images of a physician\u2019s waiting\/exam rooms are traditionally evoked;
